Nualolo Kai Ancient Village Site

22° 9.5′ N · 159° 42.0′ W

The remains of a Hawaiian fishing village on a narrow spit behind the reef - rock walls, wells, house platforms and garden terraces - preserved because it can only be reached from the sea.

Practical

Coordinate: USGS GNIS 'Nualolo Kai Beach'. Noodle's Notes describes the unspoiled walls, wells, stone foundations and terraces. Landing: State Parks prohibits private boat (including kayak) landings at Nualolo Kai; only permitted commercial raft tours land passengers (Capt Andy's, Kauai Sea Tours and Na Pali Explorer were listed as permitted raft concessionaires). To walk the site, book a permitted raft tour; from your own boat view it from the anchorage. Status (State Parks notices, October 19, 2026): Na Pali and Polihale were closed for Hurricane Lowell from September 4, 2026; Haena State Park reopened October 15, 2026, but all Kauai camping remained closed and Kokee Road was closed until further notice - check the Park Notices page before relying on any landing or camping plan.
