Mokuleia Bay (Slaughterhouse Beach)

21° 0.7′ N · 156° 38.5′ W

A cliff-backed sand cove just southwest of Honolua, inside the Honolua-Mokuleia Marine Life Conservation District, reached by a long stairway from the highway.

Practical

Summer: calmer, clearer water and good reef snorkeling. Winter: strong surf strips sand and exposes rocks. No lifeguards, restrooms, showers or water. Limited parking along the highway near mile marker 32 (to-hawaii.com). Mostly sand with lava fingers and boulders at the points, 10 to 50 ft deep (DAR). No-take: fishing and spearing prohibited. DOBOR lists a bow-and-stern day-use mooring here, Mokuleia SS-2 (21 00.811 N, 156 38.516 W).

Best for

Summer snorkel and beach in the marine reserve
