Honokohau Anchorage (north of the entrance)
19° 40.4′ N · 156° 1.8′ W · approximate
An open roadstead just north of the Honokohau entrance channel, used when there is no room inside the harbor; close enough to dinghy in for fuel, provisions and clearance.
Practical
Coordinate is approximate: placed just north of the entrance channel per Noonsite's description and checked to be in water; it is close to the Turtle Pinnacle and Terrapin Station dive moorings, so anchor clear of them and on sand. Noonsite (July 2024): quite a few coral patches as well as sand, depth about 25-30 ft, stays limited to 72 hours. Exposed to swell from the west and to kona storms; keep a lookout for dive boats and divers in the water.

Waiting for a slip or a fuel-dock turn
