Varko Bay (Akarnania)
38° 45.9′ N · 20° 47.8′ E
A green bay on the mainland opposite Lefkada's canal approach, guarded by the wooded islet of Agios Nikolaos, with sandy beaches and a seasonal taverna.
Practical
Sailingissues.com: approach towards the islet from open water to avoid reefs off the capes; good holding in sand, protected from the northwesterlies; the middle stretch of the NW shore has shoals, so anchor off either beach or take a line ashore (marker at the coordinate). my-sea: sand and weed, good to very good holding, sheltered N-NE-E-NW, exposed to S-SW; small restaurant (Porto Varco) in the east part in season.
Best for
Quiet mainland anchorage near the canal
Season
Summer NW; exposed to S-SW
