Anchorage· Atokos· Greece — Ionian, Saronic & Argolic

One House Bay (Atokos)

38° 29.0′ N · 20° 49.3′ E

The famous anchorage on the east side of uninhabited Atokos: a long pebble beach, a little chapel and a single house, clear water and semi-wild pigs on the shore.

Practical

IMPORTANT: from May 1 to October 31 anchoring, swimming and landing within 300 m of Atokos are prohibited (Decision 13/2025, Port Authority of Ithaca, per sailingissues.com), so this bay is only usable outside that period; verify the current rule. When open: proper depth and good holding in sand, good shelter from the prevailing NW, exposed to E and NE (my-sea). Sailingissues: very solid, but hugely crowded in season with tripper boats from neighbouring islands; lay a second anchor or line to the beach so others fit. The first building is the chapel of Agios Ioannis; a track leads to the island's saddle. allovergreece: a private island; the chapel and the owner's two-storey house are the only buildings; rich seabed for snorkelling. Lunch-stop alternatives while Atokos is closed (May 1-Oct 31): Aspro Bay on Arkoudi islet (day use, westerly or northerly weather) or Kastos (Sarakiniko Bay, Vathy Vali or the harbour).
