Cliff Bay (Atokos)
38° 28.7′ N · 20° 48.8′ E
A dramatic bay on the south coast of Atokos beneath a wall of cliffs, with small sandy beaches at either end.
Practical
Subject to the May 1-October 31 300 m exclusion zone around Atokos (Decision 13/2025, sailingissues.com). When open: deep, mostly 15 m and more, so most skippers skip it, but in light winds you can get close to the beaches at the far west (sailingissues marker 38.47672, 20.80733) or far east; my-sea gives 7-15 m in front of the cliff line, shelter only in light NW, exposed to S-SE-SW. Directly east is a tiny cove in 7-10 m, less sheltered. Lunch-stop alternatives while Atokos is closed (May 1-Oct 31): Aspro Bay on Arkoudi islet (day use, westerly or northerly weather) or Kastos (Sarakiniko Bay, Vathy Vali or the harbour).
Best for
Spectacular light-wind day stop
Season
Closed May 1-Oct 31; light northerlies otherwise
