New Fortress of Corfu
39° 37.5′ N · 19° 55.0′ E
The Venetian 'Fortezza Nuova' on St Mark's hill, built after the 1537 Ottoman siege and later expanded by the French and British — it looms over the old port and ferry approaches. The top still houses the headquarters of the Naval Station of Corfu.
Practical
Coordinate from Wikipedia. The Venetians razed about 2,000 homes in the San Rocco suburb to build it (Wikipedia). It overlooks the old port quay and the municipal market, so it pairs with a provisioning trip. Opening varies by season; check locally.
Best for
Harbour views and Venetian military engineering
