Longos Harbour

39° 13.7′ N · 20° 9.8′ E

The smallest and prettiest of Paxos's three harbour villages: stone houses crowd a tiny fishing harbour on the east coast, with fish tavernas on the water and the chimney of an old olive-oil soap factory at the end of the beach.

Practical

Anchor in the bay in 3-6 m over sand, mud and weed (holding mostly good) in calm weather only. Even light northerlies send swell in, and passing ships cause night-time swell (mySea; Boote 2023), so take a line ashore if needed. The small concrete jetty takes about 7 yachts stern-to on bow anchor, inside and outside, with rings in the concrete; in season, local and tripper boats take most of the space and Boote says you are lucky to fit two. Water and power cards come from Taverna Vassilis opposite (2015: EUR 10 for 500 L plus power, plus deposit; verify locally). Keep well off the cliffs on the approach. Ashore are two mini-markets, a bakery, cafes, a cash machine and fish tavernas.

Best for

A calm-weather lunch stop or quiet night with lobster on the quay

Season

Settled weather only; swell in any northerly
