Koilada Harbour

37° 24.9′ N · 23° 8.0′ E · approximate

A working fishing village at the head of a sheltered bay on the Argolic side of the peninsula, famous for fresh seafood and for building wooden caiques — opposite the prehistoric Franchthi Cave.

Practical

Coordinate approx: the OSM 'Koilada Bay' node off the village. Local boats fill most of the harbour; go stern-to the north side of the longest mole near the light — the ferry uses the smaller southernmost mole. The green islet of Koronida (owned by the Livanos shipping family) shelters the harbour from northerly winds. Two traditional boatyards still build wooden fishing and excursion boats. Ashore: fish tavernas, bakery, fishmongers, minimarkets, pharmacy and a laundry (OSM). A Ramsar-protected marsh lies by the village, and an Early Neolithic settlement lies submerged in 1–3 m of water nearby. About 23 nm from Ermioni and 29 nm from Hydra.
