Karathonas Bay

37° 32.5′ N · 22° 49.2′ E

The wide bay just south of Nafplio, backed by the sand of Karathona beach — a swim-stop alternative to the town quay, with Palamidi's walls on the skyline.

Practical

Coordinate is the Sea-Seek waypoint (37°32.46'N 22°49.19'E), in the bay off the beach; Sailing Issues gives 37.54057, 22.82248 for the bay. Sea-Seek: anchor at the S end of the bay, which is partly sheltered from the prevailing southerly winds in the gulf; a breakwater at the S end gives protection if you can tuck in behind it and take a line to it. Open to the SW and the afternoon SE sea breeze sends a chop in — best as a day stop or in settled weather. Beach bars and tavernas ashore; Nafplio is about 2 km by footpath (Sailing Issues).
