Kalami Bay

39° 44.6′ N · 19° 56.1′ E

A horseshoe of Blue Flag pebble beach under cypress and olive slopes, with Lawrence Durrell's White House on the water's edge — the literary heart of the 'Durrell coast' and a well-protected spot in the prevailing north-westerly.

Practical

Coordinate from mySea (anchorage in 3–6 m; another point further out at 39.74374, 19.9361 in 5–10 m). Protected from NW winds; free anchoring, no moorings (Moorings). Taking a line ashore improves holding in this busy bay. The jetty in front of the White House is for dinghies only (mySea). Ferries running the North Corfu Channel throw a considerable wash into these bays: if staying overnight, anchoring off with a long line ashore is safer than going stern-to a jetty (mySea safety note). SailingIssues finds it overcrowded with beach-goers and tavernas. Ashore: ATM, supermarket, restaurants (Moorings); mini-markets along the road (Greeka).

Best for
