Ieraka (Gerakas) Harbour

36° 47.1′ N · 23° 5.2′ E · approximate

A narrow, fjord-like inlet hidden between high cliffs, opening into a quiet harbour with a line of fish tavernas and a lagoon at its head — one of the most unusual and protected-feeling stops in the Peloponnese.

Practical

Coordinate approx: placed just off the quay by the mapped ferry landing (OSM 36.78528, 23.0868), checked to be in water; Sea-Seek's waypoint is 36°47.05'N 23°05.26'E. Sailing Issues: moor bows-to the tavernas on the waterfront, or anchor further west near the lagoon in 3–4 m on mud; in westerlies go alongside the easternmost quay; holding is poor in places and strong SE winds make it untenable. Sea-Seek: uneven depths and submerged rocks litter the bottom in front of the quay; good shelter, but an uncomfortable surge builds in strong N winds; shallow-draft boats can pass the narrows and anchor at the lagoon entrance. Tavernas: Remetzo, Avra, O Diamantis (OSM). Dinghy to a cave in the south cliffs near the 8 m sounding (Sailing Issues). Provisions: no grocery is mapped in Ieraka (OSM shows only tavernas and cafés) — stock up at Kyparissi (12 nm north) or Monemvasia. A drinking-water point is mapped at the west end of the inlet (36.78298, 23.07846; OSM 2025).
