Ancient Zarax Acropolis (Ieraka)
36° 47.2′ N · 23° 5.3′ E
The ruined acropolis of ancient Zarax on the cliff-top peninsula north of the Ieraka entrance — Hellenistic walls with eight towers, a well-preserved NW gate guarded by a round tower, and Roman and Byzantine remains inside.
Practical
Coordinate from OSM ('Ακρόπολη Αρχαίου Ζάρακα'). Greek Wikipedia describes the walls and gate; the city was abandoned after the earthquake of 365 AD. Sailing Issues calls it a ruined acropolis of possible Mycenaean origin. Path from the harbour; unfenced site; take water. The entrance light on Ak Kastro sits below it.
Best for
Short climb above the harbour
