Kyparissi Bay

36° 58.3′ N · 22° 59.7′ E · approximate

A deep bay under the snowy Chionovouni ridge where Paralia, the old fishermen's quarter reachable only by sea until the 1970s, faces its stone quay. Three mooring options in one bay make Kyparissi one of the best all-round stops on the east Peloponnese coast.

Practical

Coordinate approx: placed off the village pier at Paralia (OSM breakwater 36.97121, 22.99386), checked to be in water; Sea-Seek waypoint 36°58.31'N 22°59.61'E. Three options — (1) Village pier, Paralia: use in southerlies (Sailing Issues); moor on the SW side or anchor off the village in 3–8 m (Sea-Seek); a reef runs out from the shore about 50 m NW of the quay; reasonable in calm or light S, untenable in strong NE. (2) North cove at Agios Nikolaos: stern-to the quay in northerlies (Sailing Issues) — see separate entry. (3) Agios Georgios chapel cove behind Cape Nisaki: anchor or stern-to — see separate entry. Ferries no longer call (Sailing Issues). Heavy groundswell can roll into the bay. Shops: Zafeiris and Klapsi supermarkets, Trayforos bakery and greengrocer, butcher (OSM). Water and power may be available (The Moorings) — verify locally.
