Abelike Bay (Meganisi)

38° 40.3′ N · 20° 47.4′ E

A three-fingered bay just east of Vathi, where yachts anchor with lines to olive trees in emerald water — the classic Inland Sea night at anchor.

Practical

Sailingissues.com (Ambelakia): at least three roomy but often crowded coves; the south-easternmost spot, with a line to the north shore, is the best; a track leads to the Vathi town square. my-sea anchorage points in the bay show mud and weed with good to very good holding and protection from N-NE-NW at this spot; the bay is deep in the middle (up to about 40 m), so drop in the coves and take a line ashore. Taverna Abelaki is at the head of the bay (my-sea).

Best for

Lines-ashore night among the olive groves

Season

May-Oct; arrive early in July-August
