EasyInland sea, legs of about two hours or less, light mornings

A four-day first charter in the Ionian's inland sea, starting and ending at Lefkas Marina. You hop between Nidri, the olive-lined coves of Meganisi and the fjord-like bay of Sivota, with a swim and a taverna dinner most days. Legs are short and the mornings are usually calm.

DAY 1 · Lefkas Marina (D-Marin Lefkas)

AI image

Leave 11:00 am

The main charter base of the southern Ionian, on the east side of Lefkada town. Most crews collect the boat here, stock up on food and water, and have the briefing before leaving. Call the marina on VHF 69 before entering, and expect it to be busy on changeover days.

  • 9:30 amProvision in townBuy food, water and ice in Lefkada town before you sail south through the canal.

9 NM · about 1 h 30 mto Tranquil Bay (Liaditis Bay, Nidri)

Tranquil Bay (Liaditis Bay, Nidri)

Arrive 3:00 pm

A sheltered, almost landlocked bay just east of Nidri, and a gentle first night. Holding is good in mud and weed, but the bay is crowded in high season, so arrive by mid-afternoon. Take the dinghy to Nidri for dinner and last supplies.

  • 7:00 pmDinner in NidriDinghy across to the waterfront tavernas for a first evening ashore.

4.5 NM · about 45 mto Abelike Bay (Meganisi)

DAY 2 · Abelike Bay (Meganisi)

AI image

Arrive 11:00 am · leave 3:00 pm

A three-fingered bay on Meganisi with clear water and olive trees to the shore. This makes a good lunch and swim stop. The middle is deep, so anchor in one of the coves and take a line ashore to a tree.

  • 12:00 pmSwim and lunch aboardSwim from the boat, then eat on deck in the shade.

2 NM · about 20 mto Spartochori & Spilia Quay (Meganisi)

Arrive 4:30 pm

Spilia Bay on the north-west coast of Meganisi, below the hilltop village of Spartochori. Go stern-to at the quay or a taverna pontoon, where lazy lines are usually laid. The prevailing north-westerly blows onto the berths, and the bay is best avoided in strong north to north-north-east winds.

  • 7:30 pmDinner in SpartochoriWalk the steep road up to the village tavernas and bring a torch for the way down.

5 NM · about 50 mto Sivota Bay (Lefkada)

DAY 3 · Sivota Bay (Lefkada)

Arrive 2:00 pm · leave 9:30 am

A deep, narrow inlet on the south coast of Lefkada with shelter from almost every direction. Tavernas around the head of the bay run pontoons for yachts that dine with them, so it helps to book a berth. Gusts are common on the way in and inside the bay.

  • 7:00 pmDinner on the quayEat at the taverna whose pontoon you are tied to.

3.5 NM · about 35 mto Dessimi Bay

DAY 4 · Dessimi Bay

AI image

Arrive 10:30 am · leave 1:00 pm

A pretty bay just south of the Vlicho entrance, with a pebble beach and a beach kantina, and a natural halfway stop on the run north. Anchor in 4 to 10 m on the north side of the bay. It is open to the south and south-east, so treat it as a lunch stop.

  • 11:00 amSwim and lunchSwim off the boat, then eat aboard or at the beach kantina.

Arrive 3:00 pm

The last leg runs north past Nidri and up the Lefkas Canal, the longest of the trip at about two hours. Leave Dessimi after lunch so you reach the marina with time for fuel, handover and packing. Call the marina on VHF 69 before entering.
