Anchorage· Leros· Greece — Dodecanese, Sporades & North Aegean

Xerokampos Bay (Leros)

37° 6.4′ N · 26° 52.3′ E

A large, attractive bay at the south tip of Leros, closed to the north and very sheltered in the meltemi. It's a quiet taverna anchorage facing Kalymnos.

Practical

Very good meltemi protection (gusts still enter), but it's exposed to the south. Anchor in 5–6 m on a sand patch; it's mostly weed, but once the anchor holds the cove is very secure. Taverna moorings were laid in the past (yellow Aloni, orange Mama Vita), but the Aloni owner reported in Sept 2023 that all moorings have been removed. Watch for leftover concrete blocks and lines. Aloni (W side), run by Lefteris and Evelyn, is particularly yacht-friendly. There are no shops or bakery, so come provisioned. Lakki is about an hour's walk or a bus ride away. Good swimming and snorkelling; spearfishing is mentioned by leros.gr (check Greek rules).

Best for

Meltemi bolt-hole and a quiet taverna night

Season

May–Oct; open to the south
