Sigri Bay (Lesvos)

39° 13.3′ N · 25° 51.3′ E

A shallow, island-sheltered bay on Lesvos' volcanic west coast, guarded by Nisiopi islet and an Ottoman fort, with the Petrified Forest museum in the village and some of the island's best sunsets.

Practical

Coordinate is the bay anchorage north-east of the village (Grecosailor): 1–3 m with small sand patches in a mainly weedy bottom; well-set anchors held in 35 kn gusts; excellent shelter from northerlies. Alternative: the south-side anchorage at 39.2089, 25.8528, where five boats anchored close inshore in the NE quadrant and none dragged, and Skala Passatempo (39.1983, 25.8540), good in southerlies and a wingfoil spot. The ferry harbour (39.2128, 25.8520) is unsuitable for most yachts — an undated Grecosailor report says the basin has not been dredged and only takes 1.4 m draft, with chop in strong northerlies; water and power (pricey) by Lesbos card. Village tavernas and cafés; no fuel. Approach and channels: see the Sigri south channel passage.
