Sea of Samos Cruising Seasons
37° 36.0′ N · 26° 45.0′ E · approximate
The Sea of Samos - bounded by Samos, the Turkish coast, Leros and Fourni - is generally less windy than the Ikaria Sea to its west, except in the Fourni-Samos channel.
Practical
Best months are May-June and September-October: less meltemi and empty anchorages. August is the worst: several meltemi gales plus every harbour and anchorage crowded with Greek and European holidaymakers. Late October brings southerly winds and occasionally severe thunderstorms - always have two anchorages in mind, one sheltered from the north and one from the south. October to mid-May, northerlies and southerlies are equally likely; winter winds of force 10 are not uncommon. Position is a central point in the Sea of Samos (approx).
