Ormos Marathokampos (Samos)

37° 42.5′ N · 26° 42.2′ E

A small fishing harbour on Samos's SW coast under a ridge of wind turbines - idyllic in settled weather, and a handy stop between Samos and Fourni or Ikaria.

Practical

Anchor in the outer harbour in 3.5-4 m on sand, good holding, room for 4-5 boats. Or find a berth among the laid moorings on the SW quay (2 m inner end to 4 m outer), laying your anchor at least 35 m out; avoid the quay extension where the ferry berths. The north jetty has barely 2 m. Not a place to be in a strong meltemi: very violent gusts come off the mountain and the harbour can become untenable. my-sea notes the harbour lies in a restricted military area - photography is forbidden. Water from a long hose on the ferry quay; no electricity or fuel. Proton supermarket in the village, several tavernas around the bay, wooden-boat repairs. Validated 2010/2014.
