Potami Waterfalls (Samos)

37° 47.0′ N · 26° 40.3′ E

A cool, green gorge of old plane trees and ferns where you swim across a pool to reach a 2 m waterfall - scenery you never expect on an Aegean island.

Practical

From the bridge by Potami beach (about 4 km from Karlovasi port) follow the sign and walk about 1 km along the river to the pond; swim through to the first fall. The climb to the second fall over the rocks is not recommended; instead take the steep wooden steps from the pond shore and continue about 400 m on the path. Wear shoes you can get wet. Medieval ruins near the trail start. Take no rubbish and light no fires.

Best for

Freshwater swim and shaded walk
