Karlovasi Harbour (Samos)
37° 47.8′ N · 26° 40.9′ E
The commercial and ferry port of NW Samos, some distance from Karlovasi town, and the jumping-off point for Potami's waterfalls and the wild Seitani coast.
Practical
Protected from the meltemi but with an uncomfortable swell. Drop anchor in the harbour and moor stern- or bow-to on the quay: sand, mud and weed, good holding. A small inner marina basin is used mostly by local boats - a temporarily vacant berth can sometimes be arranged; my-sea notes dredging/construction work in progress at the entrance and a new basin full of local boats. Coast Guard on VHF 12 may collect harbour dues. Water and electricity on the quay (at least one working pedestal, the westernmost on the south quay). Fuel by mini-tanker. Supermarket about 1 km east on the main road to town; a few tavernas at the port. Validated July 2016.
