Pagasetic Gulf Winds
39° 12.8′ N · 23° 1.1′ E
The near-landlocked Pagasetic Gulf is famously gentle. The sea is relatively calm and the winds are channelled down from Pelion, so it suits novice-to-intermediate crews and relaxed short hops.
Practical
Sail Aegean describes gentle winds channelled down from Pelion, and Odyssey Sailing rates the area mild to moderate and novice to intermediate. Kavas puts the gulf's radius at about 6 nm. Once out of the gulf, the Sporades summer wind is mainly northerly, usually up to Force 5. Follow the southern coasts of the islands for shelter, because the northern coasts have stronger winds, higher waves and steep rocks (Sail Aegean). The gulf is up to 102 m deep and covers 175 km² (Wikipedia). The position is the OpenStreetMap gulf centroid.
