Lemnos Flamingo Lakes (Alyki & Chortarolimni)
39° 56.5′ N · 25° 22.3′ E
Two shallow lagoons in Lemnos' north-east — salt-water Alyki and seasonal Chortarolimni — where flamingos, ducks, geese and other migrants winter and stage on migration.
Practical
Coordinate is Lake Alyki (OpenStreetMap). Visit Limnos: Alyki, east of Agios Alexandros near Kontopouli, hosts hundreds of bird species on migration and a significant flamingo population in spring. Chortarolimni (39.89973, 25.33343, about 2.3 km²) dries out in summer and, with Alyki and little Asprolimni, forms an ecosystem where many migratory birds winter (Wikipedia). Both are in the Natura 2000 site GR4110006 with Moudros Bay. Visit by car or taxi from Moudros; bring binoculars and keep back from the shoreline.
Best for
Flamingo watching from a Moudros stopover
Season
Winter to spring (flamingos in spring); Chortarolimni dry in summer
