Lefkos (Karpathos)
35° 35.3′ N · 27° 4.0′ E · approximate
A fishing hamlet on Karpathos's west coast with three white-sand coves, turquoise water and the Sokastro islet offshore. It is the most beautiful stretch of the west coast, but it lies wide open to the meltemi.
Practical
Position approximate: in the water off Gialou Chorafi and Panagias Limani beaches, as mapped in OpenStreetMap. We found no published yacht anchoring data. Wikipedia notes that the west-coast beaches are the most exposed to the meltemi and usable only in low wind, so treat Lefkos as a calm-day or easterly-weather stop only, sounding your way in. Greeka: Gialou Chorafi has tavernas, sunbeds and parking, Panagias Limani is a smaller cove, and Frangolimionas faces Sokastro islet, which is visited by boat. Lefkos Market and other mini markets are ashore (OSM). Roman cisterns stand above the village (OSM).
Best for
Calm-day swim and taverna lunch on the wild west coast
Season
Calm days or light E winds only
