Gulf of Gera — Perama & Skala Loutron (Lesvos)

39° 2.4′ N · 26° 31.5′ E

A narrow, deep channel opens into a long, landlocked gulf ringed by olive groves, fishing villages, an Ottoman spa and the old tannery town of Perama — a calm, little-visited refuge a few miles from Mytilene.

Practical

Coordinate is the Skala Loutron southern anchorage inside the gulf (Grecosailor): mud bottom, well protected from northerlies and even better in southerlies; a large wreck in this area is marked by six lit buoys. One guide gives 4–12 m over mud with good holding in the gulf. Perama, on the west shore (village at 39.0429, 26.5056), is the gulf's commercial hub with shops, and a small ferry crosses to Koundouroudia on the east shore (Visit Lesvos); yachting.com suggests Perama for a resupply. The 'Korfos Baths' Ottoman hot spring at the head of the gulf (7th km of the Mytilene–Kalloni road) has separate men's and women's vaulted pools at about 40°C. Fishing activity and nets inside the gulf. See the Gulf of Gera entrance passage.
