Faros (Ikaria)

37° 40.4′ N · 26° 21.6′ E · approximate

A long sand-and-pebble beach village at Ikaria's NE tip near the airport - the island's sandy-bottom anchorage, popular with Agios Kirykos weekenders.

Practical

Island-ikaria.com's yacht information: shelter from the prevailing NE winds is good, the bottom is sand with good holding, and there are rarely waves in the bay in summer; a small pier in the centre of the beach takes tenders. Seaside tavernas and cafes line the beach. Caution: in fresh to strong southerlies, near-gale gusts hit the north coast especially around the airport at this end of the island (CruisersWiki). Village feasts July 26 (Agia Paraskevi) and August 10. Position is offset into the bay from the beach point published by island-ikaria.com (approx).

Best for

Easy sand anchoring with tavernas ashore
