Agios Kirykos Harbour & Marina (Ikaria)

37° 37.0′ N · 26° 18.0′ E

Ikaria's capital and main ferry port, with a small new yacht marina just north of the ferry harbour - complete with its own natural hot-spring pool - and a pleasant esplanade town for provisioning.

Practical

New marina: entrance close to the shore facing NE, marked by red and green lights, just north of the port entrance; room for roughly 12 boats alongside (no laid lines - anchoring not recommended), and recent reports say it fills up so expect to raft. Reports (undated Noonsite, September 2018 CruisersWiki) describe it as unfinished with no-one collecting fees and no charge, water on the piers, and conflicting reports on electricity - verify locally. Old port: berth on the southern pier inside the inner breakwater, watching for permanent moorings when laying your anchor and shallow depths near the root of the pier; holding patchy (sand and rock); the north mole is used by trip boats and small ferries and you will be moved. Severe gusts blow into the harbour and off the high land in the approaches with northerlies (and strong easterly gusts are also reported); CruisersWiki warns the main harbour can be exposed to dangerous swell and suggests anchoring west of the jetty or going to Therma. Water and electricity on the old-port pier; fuel by mini-tanker (delivery arranged with local providers); good-sized town for provisioning, coin laundry, banks; ferry to Piraeus. Port Authority: +30 22750 22207, agios.khrykos@hcg.gr; Coast Guard VHF 12. Not a port of entry.
