Embros Therma Hot Springs (Kos)

36° 50.7′ N · 27° 19.0′ E

Hot mineral springs bubble out onto a dark pebble beach on Kos's south-east coast, pooling in a rock-ringed basin where you lie in warm water with the cool sea lapping through the stones.

Practical

About 13 km from Kos town on the south-east coast; water rich in calcium, potassium, sodium, sulphur and magnesium at 30-50 C (Greek Wikipedia). Reach it by road or bus; it is not a sheltered anchorage, and the coast here is exposed to the fall winds that make Cape Agios Fokas a known gust zone (see the seasonal entry). Wikivoyage lists 'Thermes' among the island's quieter beaches.

Best for

A hot soak after a hard passage
