Kos Marina

36° 53.5′ N · 27° 18.1′ E

Kos's purpose-built marina, about a mile south-east of the old harbour and the main charter base of the Dodecanese, with 265 berths on six piers for yachts up to 80 m. Bland but all-weather, and a 15-minute walk from the old town.

Practical

Call 'Kos Marina' on VHF 77 at the entrance; the office sends a pilot RIB to lead you to your berth (Dream Yacht base guide; Sailing Issues). Berths have laid mooring lines (no anchor), water, power up to 400 A, phone and satellite TV; each pier has a card-access gate; 20 WC/showers, laundry, minimarket, chandlers, ATM, cafes and a restaurant on site; bilge and sewage pump-out and waste-oil disposal (kosmarina.gr). Max draught about 5 m (All Over Greece) and shelter from all directions, though the outer eastern wall lies parallel to the meltemi and is less comfortable (Noonsite comment, 2017). Weekends are packed with charter changeovers, so book ahead via the berthing application on kosmarina.gr; office +30 22420 44150, info@kosmarina.gr. Fuel dock just south of the marina, next to the slipway (see separate entry). An ActiveCaptain note gives water at 6.54 EUR per cubic metre and power at 0.44 EUR per kWh (undated) and a 2017 Noonsite report 55 EUR/night for a Lagoon 38 in September: verify locally. Hazard on approach: give the shoals off Akrotiri Ammoglossa (the sandy spit north-west of Kos town) a good offing, and expect strong gusts into the bay in the meltemi (Dream Yacht). Kos Marina is no longer a port of entry; clear in at the old harbour (mySea comment, 2015).
