Chios Kastro (Genoese Castle)

38° 22.4′ N · 26° 8.2′ E

The low, reddish-stone Byzantine–Genoese citadel at the north end of the harbour, still lived in, with the Giustiniani Palace, the Porta Maggiore gate, the Kulas tower, a restored Ottoman hammam and the Byzantine Museum inside.

Practical

An easy walk from the yacht quays (CruisersWiki). Enter by the Porta Maggiore at the south end (greeka). The castle is open until sunset (greeka review). Ottoman Baths (Hammam) open Wed–Mon 8:30am–3:30pm; Byzantine Museum daily 8am–3pm (OSM opening-hours tags — verify locally). The walls date mainly from the Genoese rebuild after 1401-02 and the 1430 Venetian siege (Wikipedia).

Best for
