Avlona–Tristomo Trail (Karpathos)

From the farming hamlet of Avlona above Diafani, old mule paths run north across empty uplands to Tristomo and the strait at Saria. Aegeanislands.gr calls them probably the most beautiful and important hiking trails in the Dodecanese.
Practical
Trailhead: Avlona village (OSM position). aegeanislands.gr: one trail goes to Vroukounda, the other to Tristomo and the Saria strait. Remote country with no water or shade along the route and no mobile signal at Tristomo (MarinaTips): carry plenty of water and tell someone your route. Avlona is the settlement where Olympos families keep their fields.
