Alykes Salt Lake (Tigaki)
36° 53.1′ N · 27° 10.3′ E
A former salt pan behind Tigaki beach, now a protected brackish lagoon and the best birdwatching on Kos, with herons, pelicans and passing migrants among the reeds and tamarisks.
Practical
Produced sea salt until 1989; fed by two streams and a seawater channel, and now permanent water year-round. Protected under the Ramsar convention and Natura 2000 and visited by many migratory birds (Greek Wikipedia). About 400 m from Tigaki village and easy to reach by car or bike (Wikipedia). Tigaki and Lambi beaches are long and sandy. Flamingo sightings are widely mentioned but not confirmed by the sources used here.
