Achilli Port (Skyros)

38° 52.2′ N · 24° 34.4′ E

A small breakwater harbour on Skyros' east coast below Aspous, named for the bay where Achilles is said to have left for Troy. It is the closest harbour to Chora but is often near-empty because of the swell it takes in the prevailing wind.

Practical

Accounts conflict, so treat it with caution. Grecosailor says draught about 4 m, first-class shelter, well-kept quays and moorings, one water point, no electricity and good mobile signal. mySea gives 4–5 m with no facilities (food in Aspous, about 1.5 km away) and says entering or leaving is forbidden in winds over Force 5. A boote-magazin crew quotes the harbour guide: rocks and reefs line the entrance, the depth falls from 5 m at the entrance to 1 m inside with silting, and it is exposed to the meltemi, so approach only in calm conditions. Seas build at the entrance in northerlies. Taxi or bus to Chora.
