Skyros Chora & Castle

38° 54.3′ N · 24° 34.1′ E

Skyros town is a white cubist village spilling down a rock pinnacle on the east coast, crowned by the Venetian kastro and the Byzantine monastery of Agios Georgios. Its lanes, plateia cafés and the Brooke statue (Immortal Poetry) make a fine half-day ashore.

Practical

Take a bus or taxi from Linaria; buses only run between Linaria port and Chora (Greektravel). From Achilli or Molos it is a taxi ride or a climb. Greektravel says the kastro and monastery have been closed since earthquake damage in 2001, so check access locally. In town are the small Archaeological Museum and the private Manos Faltaits Folklore Museum (founded 1964). The OpenStreetMap castle node is used for the position. A pharmacy and shops are in the main lane.
