Terrace of the Lions (Delos)
37° 24.1′ N · 25° 16.1′ E · approximate
A row of lean marble lions with gaping jaws, dedicated by the Naxians shortly before 600 BC. They stare east across the dry Sacred Lake where Leto gave birth to Apollo.
Practical
Originally nine to twelve lions; seven survive, and one was carried off to guard the Venetian Arsenal gate. The ones on the terrace are replicas, and the originals are in the Delos museum (Wikipedia). It's about a 10-minute walk north from the harbour. The Sacred Lake is now kept dry to stop mosquitoes. Position is approximate, placed just NW of the Archaeological Museum (OSM 37.40099, 25.26927) on the west side of the Sacred Lake, following the site layout in Wikipedia and Wikivoyage.
