Snorkel· Delos· Greece — Cyclades
Delos Waters (no swimming, snorkelling or anchoring)
37° 24.0′ N · 25° 15.9′ E
Don't plan a snorkel at Delos. The whole island is an archaeological site, swimming there isn't permitted, and the harbour rules keep boats 500 m off. Its submerged ancient quays and wrecks are protected antiquities, not a snorkel trail.
Practical
Ferryhopper: 'swimming is not permitted' on Delos, and camping and overnight stays are prohibited. Mykonos harbour Rule 14 (via Sailingissues): no approaching, anchoring or landing within 500 m except in Delos harbour while the site is open. Underwater surveys by the Ephorate of Underwater Antiquities have recorded ancient wrecks in the Delos-Rineia strait, so never anchor on or disturb finds. Removing antiquities is a criminal offence in Greece. Snorkel instead in the Rineia bays across the channel (see Karmou Ammos Snorkel and the Rineia anchorages). Position is the Delos Sacred Harbour (OSM).
Best for
Knowing the rules so you snorkel at Rineia instead
