Delos Archaeological Site

37° 23.6′ N · 25° 16.3′ E

The sacred birthplace of Apollo and Artemis: a whole uninhabited island of temples, mosaic-floored houses, a marble theatre and the Naxian lions. It's a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1990 and the centre the Cyclades circle around.

Practical

Day visits only, and overnight stays on the island are forbidden. Ticket for site plus museum: EUR 20 per person (Delos Tours, 2026). Hours: older sources give 8:30am-3pm with Mondays closed, but the 2026 Delos Tours timetable runs boats every day, including Mondays, from April to November, with afternoon returns as late as 8pm in May-August. Confirm current hours locally. There's no shade at all, so carry plenty of water, a hat and good shoes. A small café-restaurant sits at the entrance. Mykonos harbour regulation (Rule 14, quoted by Sailingissues): no vessel may approach, pass, anchor or land within 500 m of Delos, and boats may use the Delos harbour only while the site is open; special requests go to the Mykonos Harbour Office. Most sailors visit on the excursion boat from the Old Port (30 minutes) or anchor at Rineia and come over by tender at opening time.
