Panagia Kanala Feast (15 August, Kythnos)
37° 20.7′ N · 24° 26.2′ E
Kythnos's biggest panigyri: a procession for the Dormition of the Virgin at Panagia Kanala, with a re-enactment of the icon's finding and a night of food, violin and lute music.
Practical
Celebrations start the afternoon of 14 August and run late into the night. Kanala Bay fills with boats, so arrive early or come by road from Merichas. Other 15 August feasts are at Panagia Stratolatissa and Panagia Nikous. Kythnos's Easter swings custom (Kounies) is held in the village squares. Position: Panagia Kanala church.
