Odysseas Elytis Theatre & Gaitis–Simosi Museum (Ios)

36° 43.4′ N · 25° 17.4′ E

A stone open-air theatre in the ancient style on the ridge above Chora, with a sweeping view over Mylopotas. Next to it is the museum of painter Giannis Gaitis and sculptor Gabriella Simosi, its terraces peopled by white sculpted figures.

Practical

Position is the Gaitis–Simosi museum node in OSM; the theatre is beside it. Visit Ios: the theatre seats about 1,000, was designed by architect Peter Haupt and is built of local stone and marble, and it hosts summer cultural events. It is 5-10 minutes on foot from the windmills. Opening hours are not confirmed here (verify).
