Ios's municipal network of marked short trails, which link Chora to the Skarkos ruins, the windmills, the Elytis theatre, hill chapels, a cheese dairy and quiet beaches. GPX and KML tracks can be downloaded.
Practical
Position approx: Chora, where Routes 1-3 and 5 start. Routes from Visit Ios: Route 1 (circular): Chora - Skarkos - Epano Kampos - Agia Triada - Agios Prokopios - Chora, 8.7 km, 2 hours 55 minutes, moderate. Route 2: Chora - windmills - Elytis theatre - Agios Dimitrios - Profitis Ilias (almost 500 m) - Agios Prokopios - Chora, 9.4 km, 3 hours 30 minutes (plus the 3.6 km D1 link), moderate. Route 3 (linear): Chora - windmills - Diaseli cheese dairy - Agios Ioannis Prodromos monastery below Pyrgos, the highest peak, 8.3 km, 3 hours 20 minutes. Route 4 (linear): Mylopotas - Klima beach, 3.5 km, 1 hour 20 minutes, with geology along the way. Route 5: Chora - Port - Agia Irini - Valmas, 2.1 km, 45 minutes, easy. In summer, avoid noon and the afternoon heat, carry plenty of water and a charged phone, and don't walk alone (Visit Ios).
