Loutra Marina (Kythnos)
37° 26.6′ N · 24° 25.6′ E
A small, friendly harbour in the spa village of Loutra on Kythnos's north-east coast. Thermal springs flow out a few steps from the quay, and the waterfront is lined with tavernas and cafés. It is the best meltemi shelter on the island.
Practical
197 m of quay with an average depth of 4 m (Port Fund of Syros); mySea gives 2-3 m along the berths and about 30 berths alongside or stern-to. The bottom is sand and mud with moderate holding, so lay plenty of chain. Sailingissues calls it the best meltemi protection on Kythnos; in a meltemi, moor stern-to on the outside of the quay and ideally double up inside. The Port Fund says it is protected from everything except E and NE winds, and strong NE/E winds can make it untenable. Avoid the outer mole in strong northerlies. Sand shoals lie on the SE side of the approach. Very crowded in summer, often with boats rafted two and three deep. When full, use Agia Irini Bay next door. Water, power, fuel, WC; the harbour master has power adapters. Port Fund tel. +30 22810 82336, Loutra mobile +30 690 715 8193 (Eleni Kozadinou) or +30 695 581 8183 (mySea). Office hours 8am-1pm and 5pm-10pm. Fees: mySea reviewers quote EUR 2-4 a night plus EUR 3 each for water and power (undated, verify locally); the Port Fund schedule applies. Position from the OpenSeaMap harbour feature.
