Kato Koufonisi Anchorage (Panagia)

36° 54.8′ N · 25° 35.6′ E

The bay by the little Panagia church and pier on Kato Koufonisi, facing the main island across the channel: turquoise water, goats, a taverna, and no village.

Practical

A Grecosailor skipper report rates the bay next to the small Kato Koufonisi pier 'excellent mooring' over sand, rocks and seagrass, but challenging in north winds above 15 kn. Sailingissues' 'South bay', just west (36.9112N 25.5834E), is stony with shells and sand. In stronger northerlies take a line to the long rock formations on the east shore. Grecosailor lists Panagia bay among the best northerly shelters. Detis beach (Grecosailor 36.9108N 25.5818E) is sheltered from the meltemi, but ferry and tripper wash rolls in, and its rocky inshore holds poorly. The Venetsanos taverna is a short walk inland. Only fishing and tourist boats use the tiny pier (Wikipedia).
