Fokos Beach (Mykonos)

37° 28.8′ N · 25° 24.6′ E

A remote, wide sandy beach on the wild north coast below the Marathi reservoir, with a single traditional tavern and no sunbeds.

Practical

Faces north, so the sea is often choppy in the meltemi (Greeka). Visit only on calm days. Reached by a dirt road from Ano Mera. One tavern and part of the beach is naturist. The Ano Mera / Marathi reservoir nearby attracts migrating birds Sep-Nov, including herons, swallows and Eleonora's falcons (Greeka).

Best for

Calm-day escape from the crowds; birdwatching in autumn
