Chora Andros Harbour
37° 50.8′ N · 24° 56.3′ E
The harbour of Andros town (Chora or Kastro) in the north of Niborio bay, guarded by the Tourlitis lighthouse on its rock, with the neoclassical capital a short walk south along the beach.
Practical
The safest berth on this side of the island is the inner basin; in a meltemi moor as far east as possible (SailingIssues). The inner harbour is normally full of local boats; there is room behind the mole and on the newer western mole (Noonsite). MySea: yachts moor at the breakwater or mole in 0.3-6 m, inner harbour mostly local boats with places up to 3 m; stern-to or bow-to with some laid mooring lines. Holding is poor to moderate in rock, weed and sand, so check your anchor. Approach can be difficult in a strong meltemi, which blows down the coast straight into the harbour; once inside it is reasonably sheltered. A yellow buoy north of Tourlitis guides you in. Water and electricity available; fuel station in town (Noonsite). Port Authority (Chora) tel +30 22820 22250. Fees: not found, verify locally. Pin is the OpenStreetMap harbour node.
Best for
Visiting Andros's capital and its museums
Season
Best May-June and September; approach is rough in a strong meltemi
