Andros Route 1: Chora to Panachrantou Monastery

The classic climb from Chora's Nimborio harbour through Ypsilou, Lamyra and the spring village of Menites to Panachrantou Monastery high on Gerakonas, crossing the arched 'Haunted' Stoicheiomeni bridge.

11.5 km, about 4.5 hours, moderate; maximum altitude difference 895 m. Stone-paved path, dry-stone walls, bridges, many springs and churches. Water at every settlement from Chora to Menites and at the monastery; food in Chora, Menites and at the monastery. Several tarmac road crossings, so it can be shortened by taxi.
