Andros Chora & Kato Kastro

37° 50.5′ N · 24° 56.6′ E

Andros town spreads along the Thalassini promontory in marble-paved lanes of neoclassical shipowners' mansions, ending at the ruined 13th c. Venetian lower castle (Kato Kastro), reached over the arched stone bridge called the Kamara.

Practical

Walk out along the promontory, then cross the Kamara to the castle islet; the lighthouse sits on a second islet beyond. Four museums in town: Archaeological, Museum of Contemporary Art, Maritime and Folklore (Wikipedia). Rent scooters to see the villages of Apikia (Sariza spring) and Syneti (SailingIssues). Pin is the Kato Kastro node in OpenStreetMap.
