Apollonas Harbour (Naxos)

37° 10.9′ N · 25° 33.1′ E

A small fishing village and harbour at the north-east tip of Naxos. In antiquity it shipped marble from the quarry where the 10 m Kouros still lies, and today it has a sandy beach lined with tavernas.

Practical

mySea: a breakwater protects the fishing harbour, and yachts can berth stern- or bow-to beyond the mole in up to 3 m, but free berths are rare. Do not moor at the breakwater south of the fishing harbour, where it is under 1 m in many places. It is dangerous in east winds, and you should leave in a strong wind. Anchor holding is moderate. Sailingissues: Mediterranean-moor stern-to but keep the yacht well off the quay, as the sandy bottom is very shallow; 'dangerous in (north)easterlies'. Tavernas: Nikos and La Sabia (sailingissues). There is a supermarket in the village (OSM). The Kouros is a short walk away. Fishermen's Festival every 28 June.
