Apiranthos Village (Naxos)
37° 4.3′ N · 25° 31.3′ E
A marble-paved mountain village at 650-700 m between two green valleys, with a dialect and traditions that recall Crete. It is the birthplace of Manolis Glezos, who tore the Nazi flag from the Acropolis in 1941.
Practical
26-28 km from Chora; about 11 km up from the Moutsouna anchorage. There are several small museums (OSM) and tavernas: Lefteris, +30 22850 61333 (Greeka). There is a traditional bakery and mini market (OSM). The 15 August feast includes afternoon dancing (Greeka). Bring a layer, because it is noticeably cooler than the coast.
Best for
Mountain-village day trip, ideally from Moutsouna
