Alyki Lagoon Wetland (Naxos)

37° 5.0′ N · 25° 21.9′ E

The salt lagoon beside Naxos airport, just behind Agios Prokopios, is the largest wetland in the Cyclades and a stopover for flamingos, waders and the rare ferruginous duck.

Practical

Greek Wikipedia: the Alyki lagoon next to the airport is the largest wetland in the Cyclades and, despite development pressure, shelters greater flamingo, common redshank and ferruginous duck; it is in Natura 2000. NaturaGraeca counts 13 wetlands on Naxos, with Alyki the most important. OSM maps the protected area 'Aliki Dimou Naxou' here. Best in spring and autumn migration with binoculars from the edges; keep dogs and drones away from birds. Walk from the Agios Prokopios anchorage or Agia Anna.
